My human rights were breached , I am Registered Disabled as Hearing Impaired under the chronically Sick and Disabled, resulted by being boxed around the head by Nuns and staff as a child because this problem started when I was aged about 9,I was always being hit and being called stupid because I couldn't hear what was been said unless the Nun's or staff  came close to my face but often this was worse because they shouted in my ear which was painful,   . NO provision was made for me in order that I could tell what questions  people were throwing at me with speed ,+ they all sat sideways to me so I could not lip read even if I tried + the cellings were low which effects the Octave in the room the outcome was I couldn't hear what was being said as I knew they were throwing questions FAST not allowing me to digest what they might be saying .+ I was sat opposite a large window with the Glare of light  in my face they just did not care + no medical records were presented.I also suffer from Arthritis , the only time during a hearing when a Large built well fed looking hard Man Leaned toward me with a harsh bully'ish expression on his face  which scared me ,with a loud voice that allowed me to watch what he was saying He >was saying >>Your Father Was A Drunk.I couldn't believe it I was shocked at this ignorant attack I knew my Father was  not a Drunk ,he had just come out of the army and was working hard but needed a bit of time to sort his life out in order that he could look after his 6 children alone ,indeed he applied to get my siblings home >to his own house which he owned just 2 weeks after we were detained by the court BUT HIS APPLICATION WAS TURNED DOWN BY THE STATE,even though we had many extended family members willing to help him, as For myself  Dad applied also for my release and again was refused by the state , This was coming a Man who probably Never been near Industrial Child Prisons and was being Paid handsomely  to Insult me and my Family. All in the name of the COWARDLY  INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT and SADISTIC  Money Grubbing RELIGIOUS ORDERS  Who ran those places thus DISTROYING SO MANY IRISH CHILDREN AND FAMILY  LIVES. SO MUCH FOR SURVIVORS HUMAN RIGHTS ?THEY HAVE BEEN TOTALLY IGNORED BY THE CORUPT IRISH GOVERNMENT.
Geraldine, Thank You for Posting! I'm sure your Experience will strike a Chord with many Members!!
I should think most children when they left Goldenbridge ( and other Industrial Schools )had a hearing problem from been bashed around the head so often , Ear infections were common children cried in pain with puss running out of their ears and nothing was ever done about it , how many were driven mad or half mad from the pain and abuse. how many ended up in Mental  Hospital's suffering from depression from the Abuse?? how many ended up with NO teeth from negligence by not been provided with basic oral care like tooth  brushes and toothpaste many suffered from gum decease , eye infection's, Boil's on the skin, not to mention health problems from lack of proper nourishment ,Lack of Sunlight, lack of proper fitting shoes , lack of warm clothes, And a bent politician believes he said sorry is going to make everything alright then ,IS THAT IT?, SORRY is just a word. action is needed by way of proper compensation, NOT GROUPS.

Hi Cathriona thanks for the information regarding the redress board.

I have sent Gerry Finn an E-mail hope you receive a response soon.

Take care and thanks Catherine.

Well one thing that stuck in my mind when i got my records was . The Nuns have accepted to have her .IF this was so why were we taken to court and condemmed to industriel schools. Since we are all lumped in together there is no mention of industriel schools as such. It was mainly because of family problems that we found ourselves there. We never even missed school because many were too young.. Reform schools are mentioned. residential. But not the places we were sent to because the nuns had made a decision. Its haunts me. I will never forget going back to goldenbridge. And my Dad had travelled such a long way to be there.
