A Brave Fenian Man.....

My Grandfather was a brave Fenian man...

Who hailed from Oldcastle, Co Meath from a family of Tin Merchants..

As a child I see him, with a broken arm in a sling -

His flat cap and his jacket that hung in limp like cloth from age.

I only have that one snippet of memory

But he is my Granddad all the same...

I recall the vigil as we, children, were brought in "to say goodbye"

There was a ghostlike presence in the bed...

The white linen and starched cloths…

My Lovely Mammy...and her Washboard...

The Washboard

I remember so well my mother

Washing our clothes on her washboard

She had an old wooden one for many years

And was delighted to be given a new one.

The new one had glass ridges down it,

I remember her propping it

In the old square sink

Which was also only new –

Before that she would kneel on the floor…

governments love euthanasia laws but I say #DisabledLivesMatter

In America the disability community are fighting a 14 year old disabled girls wish to kill herself. They argue her medical care and lack of support is forcing her to make this decision.
