The Shame of Ireland

The Shame of Ireland

A peom which i sent to caranua to place on their website

There we were 1st day,
Nervous, excited tears aplenty,
Innocent and oblivous,
As to what lay ahead,
Not for long though,
Suddenly friendlyness took on a darker shape,
At first surely just a bad dream,
But then innocense departs,
Welcome to a new place,
Lies behind friendly faces,
Strange wants and desires,
Where the bad gunky flows aplenty behind the masks,
So now a new person emerges,
Thinking, reading the ground and the plays like a pro,
Childish thoughts now just a distant echo,
Retreating to the basement,
Wary of the footfalls outside,
It will never happen again they said,
Come be embraced by the state,
Redress is at hand,
Again we watched,
Wanting to belive,
Wanting it to be over,
Again they fooled us,
Some breadcrumbs and some promises,
Was all it took to shut our mouths,
With the breadcrumbs gone and the promises long forgotten,
Once more to the breach dear friends,
A few more crumbs,
But somehow a line gets crossed,
The new world is unveiled,
And there after all these years,
The clothes, the face have all changed,
But there is no doubth,
The bad gunky has returned.
Only this time its the bad gunky who is fearful,
Knowing it over played its hand,
It under estimated inits caclulations,
It forgot that i always fought to the very end,

Thanks for the support guys really means a lot, the phrase bad gunky comes from a stephen king novel called liseys story, this book helped me verbalise a lot of emotions that i had trouble expressing and is one hell of a read, if ya have the time give it a go.
