The Shame of Ireland
12:50 PM (2 hours ago)
Dear Ms. Byrne,
The Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe, T.D., has asked me to reply to your email of 24th April 2018.
Firstly, let me express my sincere sympathies to you on the loss of your brother whom you say previously served on two missions as a member of the Permanent Defence Force in The Congo.
In your email, you reference the deaths of soldiers in the 1960’s. I have been informed by the Military Authorities that the Defence Forces do not keep statistical information on the cause of death of former soldiers, therefore I am unable to comment in this regard.
Furthermore, you outline some concerns regarding medications with particular reference to a drug made by Novartis. As matters regarding pharmaceuticals and the pharmaceutical industry are not within the remit of The Minister with Responsibility for Defence or the Department of Defence, I have forwarded your correspondence to The Department of Health for their consideration. If you have any further specific queries, you might consider referring these to the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), the regulatory body for licensing medications in Ireland.

MINISTER WITH RESPONSIBILTY FOR DEFENCE
