The Shame of Ireland

The Shame of Ireland

I have today written to Clare daly

Hi Clare we cannot find any way to get attention of the corruption of Caranua
they claim to hav spent 7 million but no one seems to know on what as most of the survivors have got very little and I had been waiting now a year only to be told that I have to wait another 3 months something's very wrong. Please guide to me to a  human that can help me. Please As I know you cannot yourself take this on
Clare if good women and men do nothing then EVIL will win. I cannot let that happen again to us and by us I mean all the survivors.

Siobhan

Hi Siobhan,

Thanks for getting in touch and I am very sorry that you had to. I have tried to get answers from the Minister with regard to the functioning of Caranua, but have not been too successful to date. I will try to pursue with the latest information you have given me and I will give you shout when I hear back.

All the best

Caranua is an independent statutory body established pursuant to the Residential Institutions Statutory Fund Act 2012. Caranua provides regular updates on its website (www.caranua.ie) in regard to the number of applications received and related matters. I understand that by 31st December 2014, Caranua had made payments worth €8,935,624 to 1,062 persons who had applied to it. That total amount is broken down under the following headings: Housing €6.42m, Heath €2.16m and Education €0.35m. I understand also that administrative costs associated with the running of the organisation in 2014 amounted to just over €1m. I should point out that all of these figures are provisional and are unaudited. In accordance with the relevant legislative provisions, Caranua's audited annual accounts will be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas in the normal manner.

I listened to a radion program over the weekend, Joan Bruton it seams was adopted as a baby as was the practice back in the day, amazing how selective amnesia is so prelevent in our society. Given she is in the department of social protection...

Hello all,  is Clare Daly in the irish government,   I dont really know her but if she cannot get in touch with the Minister to put our case to her who can.  Who can justify caranua getting 1 million Euros for admin and the running of this office.  Our money is running away with these uncaring people.  I applied for help some time ago and have heard nothing,  who are they supposed to be helping,  I think it is them who are helping themselves to our money. Why cant we get a meeting arranged with this minister is she in hiding again.

How Long Has Caranua Been In Existence?

Comment by Michelle on February 4, 2015 at 3:19
Only since January of 2014 & none of them are trained in caruna
Comment by Elizabeth Nicholas on February 4, 2015 at 11:04

If these people are NOT trained,  why are we being told that they are,  in the literature they send out to us.  So why are they in these positions and being paid with our money.  Why is the minister not doing anything to shut this company down, or at least change how it is run,  but we (survivors) should have a say in all aspects of how things are run.

Comment by jack colleton on February 4, 2015 at 11:33

hello Michelle.  that long?!  those spending figures seem totally unreal!

Comment by jack colleton on February 4, 2015 at 11:35

survivors need to be on board. survivors need to be involved (engaged) at all levels of administration and delivery of service (s).
