Just to clarify...Barbara K mentioned me in "Shame of Ireland" as a survivor of an industrial school. I wasn't in an industrial school but I've based the novel I published recently on the testimony of those who were. I can understand how Barbara got that impression as I spoke about the dreadful Ferryhouse industrial school in Clonmel and probably came across as someone who'd been there. John Fitzgerald
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Joseph%27s_Industrial_School,_Clonmel
"Arthur John Moore was an enthusiastic supporter of the new Industrial Schools as an alternative to the detention of children in Workhouses. However, his motives for establishing Ferryhouse may not have been entirely altruistic. At this time he was running for Parliament and the building of the school, which had widespread popular support, was completed just in time for the 1880 General election."
Hi All, my apologies for the misunderstanding - I have updated the blog! Barbara
