The Shame of Ireland

Have a read of caranua's new and final guidelines

http://www.caranua.ie/useful_resources/caranua_publications

Read the appling for services pdf,

On my first reading sounds even more complex with extra quotes being required also some very heavy handed statements in there.

Whats your thoughts.

Yes carauna will audit you if you do not provide receipts, i would like to see what powers caranua have in law to conduct an audit on a survivor. Michael

As application form 2 is not available on their website yet i may have to revisit these comments,

The good,

Expanding the range of things survivors can apply for, the limits in terms of the available funds seem fair.

The bad,

The extra quotes now needed, the heavy handed statements in relation to audits etc.

The down right ugly,

The failure to acknowledge that survivors have been discriminated against and there human rights abused by the previous guidelines. The failure to answer the question of why they take such large wages from our fund, the lack of control survivors have over the fund, surely it is only fair given that all wages and costs come from the fund that we can query the amounts spent on wages and costs, i for one would like to audit mary higgins.

Also the payment process despite the change that payments can now be made to survivors seems to be driven by the same negative preconceptions of survivors given the wording used.

Its funny that the website of caranua states 43 million paid to survivors yet it is only now that payments can be made to survivors, albeit with serious conditions placed on the payment. So i think its fair to say that this can be called misinformation. Michael

James you should take part in our petition to the irish human rights commission, while its a great idea to march you have to take into account the privacy issue that a lot of survivors have, also a lot being elderly and with medical conditions so it might be an issue putting together a large number, i would happily march with you.
