Why is the Shame of Ireland Website called so? What is meant by the Byline?

I recently received an email from a members that asked about the Name of the Website and the reference to "Politicians" and "Shame", I am indebted to this member as I feel that others (especially those who where not around when the website was formed), may be wondering too?

The phrase is not suggesting that anyone needs to seek the approval of politicians it is meant to explain the reason that the website is called the "Shame of Ireland"

 

"We are the Shame of Ireland because the Politicians and Religious are Ashamed of us!

When it is them that Should be Ashamed!"

 

The Irish Industrial School where indeed a great Shame on the Irish Nation.

 

The Irish Politicians and Religious are indeed ashamed, so much so that they did a Secret deal between each other.

They also devised a Redress Scheme that was intimidating and abusive and did not reflect the harm done by the Industrial Schools; Which again is a Shame they should bear; yet they believe that they have been honourable?

 

It is their Shame that the phrase Speaks of and their attitude to survivors which they should also be deeply ashamed of?

 

The Shame is theirs and their alone and the whole title of the Website and the “by line” is I believe reflective of this?

 

Indeed any Survivors’ should be proud of any achievement that they have made in their lives, because these achievements no matter how small are

in spite of the Government

in spite of the Religious and

in spite of the Solution that they provided which was Called “Redress”

but failed to Redress anything!

The Question was raised by a Genuine Survivor for whom I have the utmost respect.

I thought it was an interesting private question that others would like to know the answer to, considering that the origin of the Name and Description are lost in the annuls of time.

Bet not many Members knew the origin? Or the rational behind it ?

An interesting physiological discussion, that is all.

i agree with the spirit of your message Rob. politicians and church are hand in glove. a tight fit. power and control and money ofcourse doubtless.
