Hi. Catherine.
I was not sent to Artane until 1964, there would have been about 600 inmates there at that time. We were always called by our surnames or our numbers never christian names. I dont remember many names from those days.
Thanks.
Paul
Hi Catherine, Why is it that the goverment thinks that all survivors need to have education tghis late in life. I am on my way to my 75 birthday so what good is education to me. none of my familey need it either as I made sure they had what I NEVER HAD. I would the goverment to do the right thing by the survivors and do what they want. Ispent 13 years in two of those schools so I KNOW WHAT ALL US CHILDREN WENT THROUGH. I now live in the united kingdom and have for the last 54 years, I would like to go back one day but with a goverment that dont care about the children that suffersd the horrible abuse under there care, why would I EVER GO BACK. jUSTIC SHOULD BE SEEN TO BE DONE NOT JUST PLAYED WITH. ALL SURVIVORS SHOULD GET TO GEATHER AND FIGHT FOR THERE RIGHTS. IF IRELAND IS A FREE STATE LET THE SURVIVORS HAVE THERE SAY.
Hi Catherine, thanks for your reply, yes im coping as best i can, concerning myself with the various issues and being as much a pain in the rump to the Governent TDs and others that are down on us, its the only way of hitting back, I have always compared the Religious with the Mafia, and i consider the Irish Government are right up there with them, followed by some of the so called Group leaders, who have jumped on the gravy train for their own and familys benifit, at genuine survivors expense!
I hope life is being good to you to Catherine, none of us had it easy, that is for sure, we all have our horror stories, but thankfully many of us have learnt how to survive, and the way the Irish S/ T/ Fund is going, its a good thing we have managed this far.
I am involved with a few other support sites, and i can see that many are struggling with various problems, and it upsets me that the powers that be still insist on inflicting further hardship on us, instead of addressing our issues. But such is the state of our world today, and knowing what we all know now, if you had your life over, would you want to be a Catholic?
Sorry Catherine, get carried away, and have trouble stopping me one digit banging out stuff on this daft pc, i get so uptight talking about the Religious and the Godfathers of the Irish thingamajig they call a Government!
Never mind, one day they will come a cropper, and be great to see them all get banjaxed!
HI Catherine. I have sent emails to Mr Quinn TD, as reguards to this ststutory board he wants to set up for the abused survivors, I put it to him what I thought of it, but it seams he is above us to give me an answer. I have told him that this board he wants to set up is of no use to most of the survivors as they are retired and should get most of the services that they propose free, so what they should do is give all survivors a small pension, and let them do what they want with it. After all they earned it for all the work they were forced to do in the induserial schools and got nothing for it. Ihave done some research on labour law and found that a law was passed in the european court of human rights in 1930 that abolished forced labour which the IRISH govermenr signed up to. THE law states that no person should be forced to work and if the work was done that they get the rate of pay for the work done. So the Irish Goverment and the industrial schools broke the law in makeing us work for no reward. So on that bases all survivors should be payed for all the time they had to work for those industrial schools. Thats my view on this I dont know what you think. take care JOHN.
