THE IRISH STATE has, to date, failed to operate a redress scheme that puts survivors’ needs first, according to an expert.
The Government is currently drawing up plans for a redress scheme for survivors of mother and baby institutions and county institutions. This scheme is expected to open to applications next year.
It will be the latest in a number of redress schemes established in recent years on foot of investigations into abuse in industrial schools, Magdalene laundries…

Hi Barbara. i do agree with you, but will it happen!!!
Hello Barbara, just to ask how did the meeting go with the minister yesterday, did you manage to mention caranua. As you say our money will dry up sooner than later and I'm sure there are lots of us that still need help, in my case its financial help but they are not very forthcoming but am not giving up. Liz
Hello Barbara, good morning hope the weather is as nice there as it is here. We have been looking after our Grand daughter Lilly for the last 2 weeks as her child minder is on holiday, she goes home today so I can get some housework done properly.
Anyway, any news with the meeting with the minister yet, we as survivors cannot sit back and allow our money to float away if I lived any closer I would accompany you but I am in the UK. Good luck with that and keep in touch. Liz Nicholas
Hi kid, I lost contact also, other stuff needed dooing ,still does, so hoear you were unwell, sorry to hear. Hope you are better than before. We must meet, as I am very aware that nothing is secure. Not even shure if my news is relevent, suffice to say, I am glad I used the pen and not the phone to communicate with caranua.
Hi, lost the plot again, any up date, you were to have a meeting with someone, how did it go, it is scary how they are changing things, almost under the table, if it was not for this site, I for shure would be in the dark. Also not shure how many are around my area, and how many could attend a meeting of our own,, I'm shure we could get a central meeting place, and Invite some of the media, and give anyone who wants, a chance to speek, What think you. If there is a way of finding out how many are around, perhpas Athlone could be a venue..It is central, near train and bus, and so on.
Thank you.
