After spending some years alongside girls that had been transferred from the Magdalene Laundries It was heart breaking to hear them crying day after day - all they asked for was their babies. As a teenager I never truly understood what all that was about.  I looked around the Institution packed with detainees and wondered if they got their babies back just where could they  have kept them?  Of course nothing makes sense to a young teenager it  was awful to have your baby taken away but worse to be locked away in a mental institution, may God forgive the wrongdoers...Some were locked up because they were convicted for shoplifting in the UK and were placed in the mental Institutions in Ireland.  I asked her why she did shoplifting and she told me it all started when her baby was taken away...What a life? I was one of the babies taken from my mother when I was born and never to see  or hear of her again, that was 78years ago. so who in the government cares .What do they care how I or all the other  PEOPLE WHO WERE PUT  INTO COUNTY HOMES AND THERE MOTHERS SENT TO THOES LANDDRIES NEVER TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THERE CHILD. They now have this enquire into those co homes, what for it most certain not for my peace of mind. What of all those children who have past away over the years, they will never know what happened to there MOTHERS. Is this another form of the Ryan Report  just to save for the GOVERNMENT.

It is now 2years on with this enquire into Mother and Baby homes and we still don't know what has come from it. I got in contact to the now Minister for child welfare about the second report from Judge Murphy and she said it was past onto the Minister of Justice, that was 6 weeks ago, also I WAS TOLD i WOULD RECEIVE A COPY OF THE REPORT IN DUE COURSE, I am still waiting for it.What dose that tell you, It would seam the report is only for the Government only and not for us the people that were in those HOMES OR THE YOUNG MOTHERS THAT WERE SENT TO THOSE MAGDALENE LAUNDRIES. IT WAS BAD ENOUGH THAT WE LOST OUR MOTHERS AND A NORMAL FAMILY LIFE, BUT WHAT OF THE SUFFERING OUR MOTHERA WENT THROUGH AT THE HANDS OF THOSE MONEY MAKING NUNS.DO WE BELIVE WE WILL GET ANY JUSTICE FROM THIS ENQUIRE, IT SEAMS MORE UNLIKELY. I HOPE I AM WRONG FOR ALL OUR SAKES.

If Fathers Had Rights That Might Have Helped?

John McCarthy, I too was born in a County Home and taken from my mother. From there went to an Industrial School. We have a shared pain.
