The Shame of Ireland
This photo is of the dorm in artane .In the top left of the picture is a cubical room, where the night duty brothers would sleep and hunderds innocent children were abused.
In this dorm there were 200 beds. What is missing in this picture, there are no personnel effects allowed. You were only allowed a toothbrush, tooth powder,a bar of soap, a towel and night gown, which were put under your pillow. You can only imagine how miserable it was.Looking at the top of the picture through the door, there was another dorm also with 200 beds there were four dorms sleeping 800 children.
You can see the rafters of the roof with no heating.
Animals on the farm were treated better the children in this so called school.

Hi. Geraldine.
Thanks for your thoughts. I was just one of hundreds that passed through these (PRISONS) for children.
I would never forgive or forget what those scum did to us.
What year are you referring to? During my years there were five dormitories, each housed just over 160 beds. Those without beds slept on the floor. As a ten year old I started work in the machine room making shirts and repairing all other clothing with patches. Later I went on to work on the poultry farm. There I was able to eat some of the food meant for the livestock.
There were more than 800 boys in the school and these numbers declined after my 'stay'. The numbers can be checked out in the Ryan Report. Of the 800+ there were a small few who I refer to as the 'Nobodies' in my book. these were kids who had no visitors or no families. During the holidays most children went home to their parents whilst us 'Nobodies' tended to the livestock that required to be cared for.
In one way we were lucky to be removed from family before bonding with a grown-up and as such never suffered or experienced the pain of loss. Life in those places was normal; we knew no different. I saw death close up and it had little effect, it was part of life!
In the end these Nuns and Christian Brothers did not win, they, nor their 'ideals' were not ones to look up to, rather to be avoided and follow the opposite course in life.
