The Shame of Ireland

The Shame of Ireland

This is the exact image i have always remembered from St Patricks Upton in 1962. Two boys had escaped to go to their home in Cork. When the police returned them they were flogged in exactly same way depicted in this picture. They were taken away after the beating and moved to another institution further from their home.

that rings a bell. yes if any child escaped the police brought them back as if a prisoner!  18 years in prison in Ireland why?

as i understand human rights says prisoners should not be in a prison too far from home. ie the family should not have to travel too far to see them in prison. i was abused and tortured in 'care'.

Yes Jack you are correct. I was from Dublin when they sent me from the courts in Dublin to Upton Co Cork.

I was there for nearly three years and only saw my perants once in all that time, after that i was moved to Artane.
