The 'stew" was just watery gravy poured over spuds and carrots!!! Bread pudding was wet rancid bread (bread with green mold|) boiled in water sour milk! The meals were rotten. No wonder we all had runny noses, boils on our necks, ring worm, chilblains and scabies. The food wasn't enought to sustain us.
