Her name was (if the system is to be believed) Mary Philomena Roddy. She was charged with receiving alms aged six years and eight months old. She was committed to Clifden Ind. School until she was sixteen. The complainant in Court was Rose Clancy. The paperwork is struck through on the section for "parents". After eighteen months she was moved to Mercy Convent in Ballinasloe, where she remained until she was sixteen and left to work in Dublin. Age eighteen she emigrated to England. She never had a birth certificate and I have been unable to find any baptismal certificate. I know nothing about her life before Court and Ind. School and neither did she. Mercy Convent sent me all that I know and say they have no more. What was she doing for the first six years of her life and who was she? Who are my grand parents? I have been searching for fifteen years now since my mum died. I am now reduced to asking people if they knew her as the system will tell me nothing.
