Ferryhouse , "farmed" the boys out to work on local farms and dig the local swimming pool out . The swimming pool of which the town is so proud , not refferring to the fact the the " industrial boys" dug the pit while fed twice daily on bread and dripping ?

i assume this was the norm , as there was no staff on hand or visiting whom could teach any one anything except how to sew , carve , or dig ?
